Kickstart ideas for your school food garden

Tuesday, 28 May 2024

Check out these fun ideas to kickstart your school garden project with our ‘Growing Good Grains Grants’!

  1. Grow a ‘No Dig’ kitchen garden: Dive into the world of raised garden beds where you can grow a bounty of healthy veggies! Think juicy cherry tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, and mouth-watering sweet corn. Let the kids get creative with what they use in raised garden beds — it’s all part of the fun!
  2. Grow wheat in the paddock: Why not take it a step further and cultivate your very own wheat patch? It’s a hands-on way to connect kids with the origins of their food and the process of grain cultivation.
  3. Grow a sensory scratch ‘n’ sniff herb garden: Stimulate all the senses with a herb garden bursting with flavor and fragrance! Let the kids explore chives, parsley, basil, and more, engaging their senses of taste, smell, and touch.
  4. Grow a citrus orchard: Bring a burst of citrusy goodness to your school with a mini orchard! From sweet mandarins to juicy oranges, there’s plenty to enjoy. Plus, imagine the fun of making lemonade from freshly picked lemons for a school fundraiser!
  5. Grow a crunch and sip garden: Encourage healthy habits by involving kids in growing their own snacks! Whether it’s strawberries, blueberries, or crunchy baby carrots, there’s a whole garden of ‘Crunch & Sip®’ delights waiting to be grown.

We can’t wait to watch your school garden flourish!
