At Life Ed we believe every child deserves the chance to thrive.
That’s why we have been supporting the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of children and young Australians for over 40 years. We do this by delivering best practice and curriculum aligned programs to thousands of preschools and primary schools reaching over 700,000 children aged 3-13 every year. We partner with schools, and parents, to deliver interactive and fun educational lessons that empower children and young people to make safer, healthier and happier choices.
We have professionally trained educators that come to schools and deliver 3 preschool modules and 12 primary modules. Life Ed has a wholistic approach in covering important curriculum subjects in an integrated way including:
- How nutrition and physical activity contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
- Online safety education including strategies for recognising, reacting and reporting predatory or unsafe situations.
- Strategies to deal with bullying and cyberbullying.
- Resilience, self-awareness, self-management and social awareness.
- Respectful relationships and consent.
- Decisions, peer pressure, responsibility and consequences.
- Alcohol and other drug education (in age appropriate contexts).
- Ways to keep safe at home, school and in the community.
The (Life Ed) program builds social and emotional learning in children - getting to the root of how to build safe and positive relationships, to develop empathy, communicate respectfully, including how to respectfully disagree with someone.
The Life Ed program assists as it has a high and equitable reach of children by being able to access them while they are at school in a learning environment. Its ability to cover a range of topics that may otherwise go without being addressed or spoken about at school or at home is also critical.
My dad had been a heavy smoker since long before I was born, but one day, I came home from Healthy Harold really upset that his habit was putting his health – and life – in serious danger. That day – almost 20 years ago! – he had his last cigarette and hasn’t touched one since.
I have to say, having resilience and grit has to be one of the most important lessons I’ve taken away from the Life Ed program. That’s definitely something I think is crucial for young people when navigating the path to adulthood, so I am so glad I learned those lessons early on.
